Congratulations to our 2022 RPM Youth Scholars!

Sep 8, 2022 | Spotlight

We are thrilled to offer the RPM Youth Scholarship for a second year in partnership with Iron Compass – the charitable initiative of RPM Training Co. Iron Compass is on a mission to give kids the chance to realize their own potential, develop resilience and confidence, and find a sense of belonging in a positive and healthy community.

This scholarship was created to help FYR athletes with the greatest demonstrated need with their post-secondary education costs. This year’s scholarship awards range in amount from $2,000-$7,000. Please join us in congratulating our 2022 RPM Youth Scholars!

Carl, FYR Tectonic

What are your academic and future goals?

At University of Washington, Seattle Campus, I hope to learn more about economics. I plan on participating in the Peace Corps to go out and make a difference. In the future, I hope to assist communities in need in the US

What does receiving this scholarship mean to you and your family?

This scholarship takes a lot of stress off my back. It lets me focus on education and fitness instead of working additional jobs. It also takes weight off my family’s shoulders, as they have had to support three other people going to college around the same time.

What is something you learned from being part of a fitness community that you will take into your next year as a student?

I learned that if I set goals and have the grit to follow through, I can accomplish anything. Along with that, I learned that there is always a community looking out for me and rooting for me.

What would you like to say to our partners at RPM who make the RPM Youth Scholarship possible?

I would like to thank RPM and Iron Compass for supporting athletes in the transitions to college and allowing them to focus on their education and fitness.

Sapjah, FYR Heart of Camden

What are your academic and future goals?

In my first year at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, I aspire to be a light in each of my classes and maintain a high GPA. I want to share what I learn with people who don’t have access to education, for example, my family in Mexico. Someday, I hope to be a Child Therapist! I’m also thinking about starting a functional fitness or Girls wrestling team in college.

What does receiving this scholarship mean to you and your family?

As soon as my family found out, they were astounded. They couldn’t believe the financial support being given. We are so grateful to have this help in my path to reaching my dream career. For me, it means less worrying about finding jobs, and I can have more time to study.

What is something you learned from being part of a fitness community that you will take into your next year as a student?

I am allowed to have accomplishments. I can be successful. No matter what I am going through, no matter the circumstances that seem limiting–I know that I can go above and beyond. The fitness community has taught me that I am capable of so much more. And that I can make connections everywhere I go!

What would you like to say to our partners at RPM who make the RPM Youth Scholarship possible?

Partners like RPM are the reason students like me can work even harder to reach their goals. Thank you for helping me feel seen. Thank you for kick starting my dream, and making the weight on my shoulders feel lighter. Thank you for allowing me to do what I love–inspire others and help them flow in life.

Aspen, FYR Denver

What are your academic and future goals?

My academic goal is to graduate in 2025 from Dillard University in New Orleans, LA with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. My future goal is to become a travel nurse and go back to school for a master’s degree.

What does receiving this scholarship mean to you and your family?

Receiving this scholarship means that you all believe in my potential and are willing to support me as I work toward my dreams.

What is something you learned from being part of a fitness community that you will take into your next year as a student?

Two lessons I learned from the fitness community that I’ll take with me are to not compare myself to others and do my best to put my all into something even if I don’t feel my best that day.

What would you like to say to our partners at RPM who make the RPM Youth Scholarship possible?

Thank you, RPM, for believing and investing in me. Due to your generosity, I am able to focus more on school and not on how I’ll pay for it.

Paa, FYR Nashville

What are your academic and future goals?

I am attending Belmont University in Nashville, TN with a major in General Biology with a minor in Sports Medicine. My goal is to become a scientist with an emphasis on physiology. After my undergraduate degree, I hope to earn a master’s degree in Kinesiology.

What does receiving this scholarship mean to you and your family?

This scholarship means the world to us. It is truly a blessing. It brings my parents joy and allows them to feel relieved that I won’t have to work long hours to pay for school. When we first came to America, my parents and sisters were restless and stressed because they had to work long hours to afford college. This scholarship brings me more appreciation and motivation to excel and do great things. I’m beyond grateful for everything FYR and RPM have done to make this possible.

What is something you learned from being part of a fitness community that you will take into your next year as a student?

I’ve learned the valuable lesson of being consistent in all aspects of my life. I believe this will help me achieve anything I set my mind to this academic year.

What would you like to say to our partners at RPM who make the RPM Youth Scholarship possible?

To RPM, thank you! Thank you for the opportunity to continue my academic journey. You have inspired me and a community of people that surround me to keep believing and doing great things. On behalf of my family and me, we would like to say we appreciate you and hope God greatly propels RPM to even greater heights of success.

What are your academic and future goals?

I am at William Jewell College in Liberty, MO studying Political Science with a Pre-Law concentration and minoring in Communication and Philosophy. I am also on the women’s wrestling team at my college. After receiving my bachelor’s degree, I plan to attend law school. I also want to continue wrestling and make the world team and eventually the Olympic team.

What does receiving this scholarship mean to you and your family?

Receiving this scholarship is extremely helpful because I don’t have to worry about money for a whole semester. It takes away the stress about paying for school and I can focus on my academics and athletics.

What is something you learned from being part of a fitness community that you will take into your next year as a student?

Something that I learned from being a part of the fitness community that I will take into my next year as a student is to continue to be resilient. I’m glad to have found a community in FYR and the lessons learned have made me mentally and physically stronger. I know that I can handle anything life throws at me because of FYR and the fitness community surrounding it.
